Jesse’s talk honestly kind of scared me. I did not realize how powerful technology was and what certain apps and wifis could do. For instance, I had no idea that snapchat saves every photo you take. His talk made me realize that I really do need to start taking technology and my digital footprint seriously as I am going into a career where I will constantly be with minors. I decided to look myself up to see what would come up, and there was not much, which I was glad to see. The only thing that came up was my old Flickr account from my grade 9 photography class. There were many pictures of my friends, family, dogs, nature, and only one of myself, which I was glad to see. There were also some pictures from when I used to play soccer. Nothing crazy or potentially damaging to my career. Going forward, I will be more careful and mindful, especially with my social media pages. I will make my accounts private and be careful with who I decide to let follow them. Another thing I learned from Jesse, is that even off the clock, I am still responsible for my students. For instance, if I saw one of my student’s in a bar, it is my responsibility to tell the bouncer and look out for their safety. Overall, I found Jesse’s talk very interesting and learned a lot!
